Admission and Registration

Students in the Credit Certificate Programs will enroll as non-degree-seeking students. Certificate applicants complete a convenient, short application form and provide supporting documents to the Office of Admissions.

Students who wish to enroll as non-degree-seeking and pursue a Credit Certificate program must meet the criteria below:

  • Have a high school or equivalency diploma (with the required minimum score)
    • More than two years out of high school and:
    • were never admitted to a degree-seeking program at UM without completing the undergraduate degree,
    • have not been rejected from UM admissions to a degree-seeking program in the last academic year, and
    • do not have a degree-seeking application pending at UM
  • Or are less than two years out of high school and:
    • are degree-seeking at another four-year university, want to attend summer sessions only, and have a letter of good standing from their home university
    • are admitted to the University of Miami for the upcoming Spring semester and want to attend in summer B session only
    • And are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or valid visa holder and meet any other requirements outlined in the Academic Bulletin Policies Governing Enrollment in Continuing Studies Non-degree Undergraduate Status
    • I-20s visas are not issued to Non-Degree seeking students.

After 12 attempted credits a grade point average of 2.5 or higher must be maintained to continue in undergraduate non-degree-seeking status with a maximum total limit of 30 attempted credits.

Please be aware that the application fee is non-refundable. Ensure that you meet the above admissions requirements before you apply. Employees and Dependents: University of Miami Employees and Employee Dependents are eligible for a reduced application fee. 


We recommend students interested in a Credit Certificate Program meet with an advisor in the Division of Continuing and International Education to discuss enrollment and registration procedures. We also may refer the student to an advisor in the appropriate academic department who can assist in designing the curriculum.

Please Note: In order to be eligible to receive the Credit Certificate, the student must remain continuously enrolled in the Credit Certificate Program Plan earning the required number of credits/courses. If a student is admitted to another academic program plan, before completing the Credit Certificate Program, the student will be automatically be discontinued in the Credit Certificate Program and thus no longer be eligible to receive the Certificate.
